All Ages Can Discover their Inner Artist at Celebrate the Arts Day

By Stacey Bomser

The sixth annual Celebrate the Arts Day promises something for everyone. Not only does it recognize the tremendous talent in our community, but it encourages everyone to discover their inner artist. The family-friendly event takes place on Sunday, January 21st at Weston Town Center.

Sponsored by the Arts Council of Greater Weston and the City of Weston, in cooperation with Young At Art and the Weston Town Center, this one-of-a-kind festival features arts and crafts booths, live performances and creative hands-on activities for all ages.

“Every year the Arts Council is delighted to bring Celebrate the Arts Day, and many other creative events, to inspire, entertain and support our whole Weston community,” stated Arts Council President Jami Nix Rahn.

Don Decker, Weston’s Director of Parks and Recreation and liaison to the Arts Council, added that “the City of Weston is happy to participate and make it possible for all activities at this special family event to be free for everyone.”

Young At Art Museum will return with its open-air studio. It offers painting, a pottery wheel, print-making and other creative artistic activities for visitors to try. Guests can learn new skills, experience new techniques and even take home their own creations.

The hands-on program also features interactive booths such ceramics, art, robotics, rocketry and more. The literary arts will be featured with children’s book authors sharing their beloved stories with guests. There will also be free face painting as well as caricature and balloon artists.

As has become a tradition of Celebrate the Arts Day, the ever-popular graffiti wall, stretching 28-feet long, and Chalk Walk will provide plenty of space for everyone to express themselves creatively.

Weston students will play an active part in Celebrate the Arts Day with musical and theatrical performances by Cypress Bay High School, Falcon Cove Middle School, Tequesta Trace Middle School and The Sagemont School.

“There are so many talented, creative kids and teens in Weston,” shared Event Chair Carole Myers. “Celebrate the Arts gives them a chance to shine.”

Celebrate the Arts Day takes place on Sunday, January 21st from 1-5pm at Weston Town Center. In case of cancellation due to inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to January 28th. For more information call 954-389-4321 or visit www.1weston.com.
