Once again, U.S. News & World Report has recognized Cleveland Clinic Florida as one of the best hospitals in the region and highest in Broward County, with its orthopedics program claiming the top spot in the state.
This is the eighth consecutive year the magazine has highly ranked the Weston hospital in its annual Best Hospitals issue. For 2017-2018, Cleveland Clinic Florida ranked second among hospitals in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area and eighth in Florida.
“It is an honor to be acknowledged for the high-quality specialty care we provide our patients and to be consistently named of the best hospitals in Florida for the past eight years,” said Wael Barsoum, MD, President of Cleveland Clinic Florida. “Our caregivers continue to focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for our patients and, as a result, an increasing number of our programs have been nationally ranked and recognized as high performing.”
For the first time, the hospital’s orthopedics program is ranked nationally. It ranked #31 of the top 50 programs, making it the highest ranked orthopedics program in Florida. Cleveland Clinic Florida’s gastroenterology and GI surgery program once again achieved national ranking, moving up to #42.
In addition, Cleveland Clinic Florida’s cancer and geriatrics programs were rated as high performing. Two procedures, hip replacement and colon cancer surgery, and two chronic conditions, heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, were also rated as high performing.
U.S. News & World Report publishes its Best Hospitals list to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health factors or age. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determine the rankings in most specialties.
Cleveland Clinic Florida is a nonprofit, multi-specialty, academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education. It has 255 physicians with expertise in 55 specialties. The Weston medical campus is fully integrated and includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery, and a 24-hour emergency department.
