Flurries in the Forecast for Weston Winter Safety Expo

By Stacey Bomser

Be sure to bundle up, because the weather forecast calls for snow flurries. On Friday, January 19th, Tequesta Trace Park will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the sixth annual Weston Winter Safety Expo.

Presented by the City of Weston and the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the Winter Safety Expo is a free, fun-filled evening featuring entertainment and educational opportunities for all ages to enjoy.

“The annual Winter Safety Expo is a highlight for kids of all ages, even the grown up variety, who enjoy seeing the resources and equipment of BSO Police and Fire,” states Don Decker, Weston’s Director of Parks and Recreation. “The night will shimmer when a Florida snowfall surprises the crowd.”

BSO will be out in full force, showcasing its impressive fleet of police, fire and rescue trucks, helicopters, and other emergency vehicles for guests to admire and explore. Officers and equipment from the SWAT team, Bomb Squad, Florida Department of Fish & Wildlife, Florida Highway Patrol, Marine Patrol, and Tactical Rescue are scheduled to appear. Members of the Weston CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) will also be on hand.

The Winter Safety Expo will offer informational booths and displays educating the Weston community on all the resources available to keep them safe. There will be a variety of attractions and activities as well, including South Florida-style ice skating, a winter wonderland themed photo area, entertainment, music, dancing, children’s activities and games, and much more.

The highlight of the evening will be a sky full of glistening snowflakes. Be sure to bring your camera, because for many Weston children this will be their first time seeing snow. Juice and cookies will be served.

The Weston Winter Safety Expo takes place on January 19th from 6-8:30pm at Tequesta Trace Park. For more information, contact the Weston Community Center at 954-389-4321 or visit www.westonfl.org.
